I've been purchasing the annual calendar from TRAINS magazine for the better part of two decades, and each year I've been extremely well pleased. The photography is superb, and the variety is great. This year the theme is Trains Across America. True to the theme, the monthly pictures include CSX, Amtrak, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern (PRR heritage locomotive), NS (Virginian heritage locomotive), BNSF, Escalante-Western, Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern, Union Pacific (again), Vermont Railway, West Texas & Lubbock, and UP (C&NW heritage locomotive). The shots are all action shots and are shot in a variety of settings, from the Pacific Ocean (Amtrak Cascades) to the Rockies to the desert southwest to the rolling Appalachians to the plains of South Dakota. Each month's photo is accompanied by a blurb that indicates day of the photo, location, and other information. This is a calendar any railfan (even a casual one) will appreciate.
